It may also be used to good effect in cases of saddle joint arthritis for daytime splinting and also for fixation of the metacarpal of the thumb or the saddle joint following injury, sprains or even in the rehabilitation phase following fractures.<\/p>\n<p>It may also be utilized as complementary treatment to surgery performed on fractures of the thumb metacarpal (Benett, Rolando, Winterstein fractures).<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; The <\/span><span>rough adjustment (bending) has to be performed on a non-injured limb of similar size. Fine adjustments, <\/span><span>readjustments (e.g. after soft tissue swelling is reduced) can be made without removing the orthosis. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span>Place the hand into the preshaped orthosis.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Shape the orthosis to the hand with gentle pressure, and close the ring around the thumb.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Fasten the bandages on the back of hand and the wrist. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>To remove the orthosis, it is not necessary to open the strap on the thumb and back of the hand; the hand <\/span><span>can simply be pulled out from and later shifted back into the fixation.
